The air was crisp and the breeze swift as racers dove into Pike Lake to begin the Brewhouse Triathlon on Sunday.
Veteran triathlete and Duluth native Brian Bich won the long course event for the tenth time.
“It’s kind of a good tired,” Bich said.
No matter how many times he races, Bich says the triathlon is always demanding.
“You feel the same no matter how fast you’re going and how old you are,” he said. “You have to work hard whether you’re in last place or first place. It’s a very challenging sport.”
Fellow Duluthian Elaine Nelson won the women’s division by pushing herself in the final two legs of the race.
“I knew I wouldn’t be the first woman out of the water, but I knew on the bike and the run I could probably make it up so I had that confidence,” Nelson said.
