Lake Superior Hiking Trail

Introduction

One of the most popular destinations in the Arrowhead Region is the Lake Superior Hiking Trail, a 277-mile footpath that follows Lake Superior from Duluth to the Canadian border. With trailheads every 5-10 miles, the trail is extremely accessible and can be experienced in small chunks or over the course of a multi-day backpacking trip… take your pick, but be sure to take the trek! The Lake Superior Hiking Trail meanders along Lake Superior’s ridgeline up the North Shore. In Duluth, the trail can be accessed from the following locations:

• Jay Cooke State Park/Grand Portage Trail to Fond du Lac at 131st Ave W (4.2 miles)
• Fond du Lac at 131st Ave W to Munger Trail at 123rd Ave West (2.7 miles)
• Munger Trail at 123rd Ave W to Magney-Snively Trailhead (4.3 miles)
• Magney-Snively Parking Lot to Spirit Mountain Chalet (3.2 miles)
• Spirit Mountain Chalet to Kingsbury Creek (2.0 miles)
• Kinsbury Creek Trailhead to Skyline Parkway at Getchell/Highland Trailhead (3.2 miles)
• Skyline Parkway at Highland/Getchell to Skyline Parkway at N 24th Ave West (5.7 miles)
• N 24th Ave W to Twin Ponds at Enger Park (1.7 miles)
• Rose Garden to Hartley Nature Center (4.5 miles)
